Creating a Program Example

In this example we will create a screw program that inserts a M5x20mm Torx screw into a hole with no threads for the first 15 mm of the hole and then with threads for the remaining 5 mm of the hole.

Two Torx pan-head screws on the black test block they are driven into

This is the screw and hole we will be using in this example.

First navigate to the Programs tab and click on the Add new program button to open the screw program wizard. With the screw we have chosen we will need make the selections shown below.

Wizard step 1, Screw, with a machine screw, a pan head and a Torx drive selected

Next select the Application as shown below.

Wizard step 2, Application, with a hole whose first L2 is unthreaded selected

Then the Strategy here I have chosen to use the Speed torque strategy for the highest tool speed while keeping accurate torque.

Wizard step 3, Strategy, with Speed torque selected

Finally in the Overview we give the program a name, a tool speed and screw details

Wizard step 4, Overview, with the program name, a tool speed of 600 RPM and a 20 mm M5 screw of 0.8 mm pitch

Input Application and Strategy details.

The rest of the Overview, with L2 set to 15 mm and the Speed torque strategy's torque set to 1.2

Then click on the Confirm button to create the program. When you click to edit the program you will see the following:

Program settings of the new program: a 1.2 Nm torque target and the steps Locate hole, Rundown and Tighten

And this is a result from the program as we created it:

Torque, speed, force and insertion depth traces of one run of the new program

Having created your program you may find that you wish to make some small changes. To do this look to Understanding Programs.
