Your First Screw
This page lists the steps involved in setting up the system and programming the first screw insertion, in the order they are done. Each one is explained in full in the chapter it links to.
Read Safety before starting any of it.
Step 1: Mount and Cable the System
Spin Mount onto the robot flange, tool into the mount, tool cables and safety cable to the Spin Bridge. See Installing and Connecting the Tool and Connecting the Spin Bridge to the Robot.
Step 2: Open the Spin Dashboard
Connect over the Spin Bridge’s Wi-Fi hotspot, which is enough for an occasional change, or over ethernet, which is recommended once you use the Spin Dashboard to follow results. See Configuring the Spin Bridge.
Step 3: Configure the Robot
Install the plugin for your robot, put the robot and the Spin Bridge on the same network, and set the tool center point and the payload. See Configuring the Robot.
Step 4: Select and Adjust the Bit
Select the bit that matches the screw, and adjust it. See Bits and Screws.
Hint
Drive the first screws with a magnetic bit collar and steel screws, even if the application will use vacuum. Vacuum adds a supply, a sensor and more to program, and is easier to add once the rest of the system is familiar. See Installing and Configuring a Vacuum System.
Step 5: Create a Screwdriving Program
The Spin Dashboard’s wizard asks for the screw, the hole and the driving strategy, and writes the program from the answers. See Creating a Program.
Step 6: Teach the Screw Position
Drive a screw home by hand first — the seated screw is what the position is taught against. See the teaching page for your robot: UR, Kassow or I/O.
Step 7: Write the Robot Program
Add the screwdriving command to the robot program and select the program created in step 5. See Programming the Robot.
Step 8: Run It and Read the Result
The Spin Dashboard shows the traces and the verdict of every run. See Understanding Results.
